Crowns & Bridges

When you have a large cavity or fractured tooth, a crown is typically required to restore the tooth. Large decay or a tooth fracture structurally weakens your tooth, so a filling would not be enough to fix your tooth.

A crown is a restoration that wraps all the way around and over the top of your tooth to structurally reinforce the tooth. A bridge is a way to replace a missing tooth using crowns. Before implants, the only way to restore a missing tooth was to use a bridge and still can be a great way to replace a missing tooth.

When you get a crown, we numb your tooth, remove a small amount around the side and over the top of the tooth, and cement a new crown over the top. It is a two appointment process and you’ll leave with a temporary crown from the first appointment. We’ll have the permanent crown for you at your second appointment.

When you get a bridge, we numb your tooth, remove a small amount around the sides and over the top of at least two teeth surrounding a missing tooth, and cement the bridge over that section. It is a two appointment process and you’ll leave with a temporary bridge from the first appointment. We’ll have the permanent bridge for you at your second appointment.
